Student Mentor - Volunteer

STEM Montessori Academy of Canada (SMAC-SIAC) is a registered not-for-profit organization specializing in science, technology, engineering, and math. (STEM) programming is open to all students with the mission to deliver top-notch STEM literacy and application. The SMAC will specialize in an advanced bar-none. STEM based educational curriculum that emphasizes the interconnected subject areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)
 
Position Description:
As a Volunteer Student Mentor at STEM Canada, you will have the unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students in your community. Our program pairs mentors with students who may benefit from academic, personal, or career guidance. As a mentor, you will play a crucial role in providing support, motivation, and encouragement to help students achieve their goals.

Responsibilities:
 - Establish and maintain a mentoring relationship with a small group of students ages 10 - 17, providing guidance and support.
 - Assist students in setting and achieving academic and personal goals.
 - Offer advice and resources related to STEM education and career pathways.
 - Listen actively and provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for students to express themselves.
- Attend training and mentorship workshops for 30 minutes once per week
 - Send reminder emails to your group once per week
 - Be available via email for questions and collaboration with students/parents.
 - Maintain regular communication with program coordinators to track progress.
 - Schedule round table discussion with your group once per month
 - Bring innovative ideas to the table.

Total time commitment: 1 - 3 hours per week

 - Enthusiasm for helping and empowering students.
 - Strong communication and active listening skills.
 - Patience, empathy, and a nonjudgmental attitude.
 - Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality.
 - Availability to commit 3 hours per week for 8 months.
