Volunteer Outreach Assistant – Community Based Seniors Services (CBSS)

Purpose of the Role:
Volunteer Outreach Assistants help raise awareness of CBSS programs by bringing information directly into the community. This role is essential for connecting seniors and community members with opportunities, resources, and support. Volunteers will distribute outreach materials, help with event preparation, and engage with the public to share information about CBSS initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
•	Poster & Material Distribution
o	Place posters and brochures on bulletin boards and in public spaces throughout Burnaby (libraries, community centres, local businesses, etc.).
o	Ensure materials are updated, visible, and neatly displayed.
•	Community Engagement & Events
o	Assist with setting up and taking down outreach booths/pop-up tables (date TBD).
o	Hand out flyers, brochures, and posters at events.
o	Talk with community members about CBSS programs and opportunities.
o	Collect contact information for people interested in volunteering or participating in programs.
•	Design & Promotion Support
o	Collaborate with staff to design posters, brochures, and other outreach materials.
o	Suggest creative ideas to make promotional materials engaging and easy to understand.
•	Follow-Up
o	Support staff with organizing sign-up lists from outreach activities.
o	Ensure interested community members are contacted and connected to the right program staff.

Skills & Qualifications:
•	Friendly, approachable, and comfortable engaging with the public.
•	Interest in community programs and senior support.
•	Creativity and/or basic design skills are an asset (e.g., Canva, Publisher, PowerPoint).
•	Ability to work independently while following guidance.
•	Comfortable with light physical activity (e.g., walking to distribute posters, carrying outreach materials).
•	Ability to speak multiple language (e.g., Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Spanish)

Time Commitment:
•	Flexible hours depending on outreach needs.
•	Initial focus: distributing posters across Burnaby (September/October).
•	Event booth support will be scheduled later (date TBD).

Training & Support:
•	Orientation to CBSS programs and outreach process.
•	Guidance on poster distribution and event booth setup.
•	Ongoing staff support and check-ins.
