Volunteer from Home - Write friendly letters to senior citizens in aged care homes and programs

Ongoing
Letters Against Isolation volunteers send friendly, handwritten letters to senior citizens in aged care homes and programs. Join us in writing thoughtful, unique messages to seniors throughout Canada and across the globe:

• This is a remote opportunity. You’ll volunteer from home on your own schedule at your own pace.
• Craft each letter with sincere wishes, a personal message, and a considerate question.
• Demonstrate empathy and kindness, connect with elders and help them realize that they are special and appreciated.
• The most meaningful part of the letter is where you write about yourself - this is what makes each message unique and special.
• Avoid topics like politics, religion, and holidays to ensure a positive impact.
• Letters should be uplifting and positive.
• You won’t know the reader’s name. Address messages to a “friend” rather than a specific person.
• Your words will be read and cherished by elders who likely won’t have the physical ability or resources to respond to you.
• We offer numerous blogposts with ideas about what to write and how to decorate your letters.
• You’ll need to supply your own stationery and ensure adequate postage to mail your letters to our partner facilities, which are currently located in the Canada, the US, the UK and Australia.
• We welcome employers, teachers, students, foreign language students, clubs, organizations, and writers of all ages.
• Consider partnering with your local library to host an event.

After you register on our website, you will receive our weekly newsletter and gain access to our web portal, where you’ll sign up to mail letters to any of our designated partner facilities.

We are seeking letter writers who will participate year-round, individually or as a group, in English or one of 30 different languages, across the US or globally. Just one letter makes a difference!
