Coach for the sport of Goalball
BC Blind Sports is seeking a Volunteer Goalball Coach British Columbia Blind Sports and Recreation Association is a not-for-profit society advancing participation in physical activity and sport by people who are blind, partially sighted, or deafblind. Goalball is a 3 v 3 Paralympic team sport with the objective of the game to throw a ball with bells using a bowling motion into the opponent's net while the opposing players try to block the ball with their bodies. Role: • Assist to plan, coach, lead, and direct training for a group of blind and partially sighted goalball athletes ranging from development to high performance. • attend practices Sunday afternoons in Vancouver (Near Joyce Station). • able to travel to tournaments domestically, potentially across the US border. • Work in partnership with BC Blind Sports staff and in collaboration with Canadian Blind Sports national team high performance staff. • Willing to take training through the National Coaching Certification Program of the Coaching Association of Canada (financial support available from BC Blind Sports for serious inquiries). Desired background, experience, interests: • Sport or team sport experience. • Coaching experience. • Experience or interest in working with athletes who are blind or partially sighted or deafblind. • Physical Education, coaching, kinesiology background. A small honorarium may be available. BC Blind Sports will cover all expenses (when pre-approved).
