Special Olympics Burnaby - Volunteer Coordinator Position

The Volunteer Coordinator for Special Olympics Burnaby plays a crucial role in fostering a vibrant and supportive volunteer community. Elected by local membership, this position requires a commitment of one year, with the option to serve additional terms. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Local Coordinator, Local Committee, and volunteers to implement effective recruitment and onboarding processes, ensuring all volunteers are well-prepared to support our athletes.

Commitment:
1-year term (unlimited renewals)

Key Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Onboarding:
Design and execute a recruitment and onboarding program that ensures Special Olympics Burnaby attracts the highest quality volunteers. Oversee that all incoming volunteers complete the necessary online orientation and receive appropriate training materials.

Fulfilling Volunteer Requests:
Address volunteer needs from Local Committee members through targeted recruitment strategies to ensure program success.

Registration Coordination:
Partner with the Registration Coordinator to organize an annual registration day in early September, ensuring compliance with SOBC (Special Olympics British Columbia) registration policies. Responsibilities include verifying Criminal Record Checks and ensuring all new volunteers complete the necessary registration documents.

Training Opportunities:
Access and promote training opportunities for all levels of volunteers, including coaching courses and regional conferences, ensuring volunteers are informed about these valuable resources.

Volunteer Evaluation & Management:
Evaluate volunteer placements regularly and collaborate with the Local Coordinator to address any performance issues, including reallocating volunteers to more suitable roles when necessary.

Volunteer Recognition:
Create a culture of appreciation by hosting a volunteer appreciation event and working with the Local Committee to prepare and submit nominations for SOBC awards to recognize the hard work and dedication of our volunteers.

Monthly Reporting:
Provide comprehensive Volunteer Coordinator reports during monthly Local Committee meetings to keep all members informed and engaged with volunteer activities.
