BOARD MEMBER (VOLUNTEER)

Afri-Can Connect Society (ACS) is a small, dedicated non-profit organization based in Calgary, committed to creating and implementing integration programs for new African immigrants to Canada. Our mission is to support African immigrants in their journey to integrate successfully into Canadian society through education, community engagement, and support services.
We are looking for a committed Board of Director to join our team to ensure effective governance and support the organization’s strategy to engage our and grow our community.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
African Connect is seeking passionate and experienced individuals to join our Board of Directors. As a board member, you will play a crucial role in guiding our organization’s strategic direction, ensuring financial health, and overseeing governance. We are particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds in non-profits, legal, accounting and finance.
Key Responsibilities:
•	Provide strategic leadership and governance to African Connect.
•	Attend and actively participate in board meetings, committee meetings, and special events.
•	Collaborate with fellow board members to develop and implement strategic plans.
•	Oversee and ensure the organization’s financial health and sustainability.
•	Assist in the development and approval of the annual budget.
•	Help establish, review and monitor operational polices including ones related to the quality of care and human resources 
•	Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
•	Provide expertise and guidance in your area of specialization (non-profits, accounting, finance, legal).
•	Support fundraising efforts and help secure financial resources for the organization.
•	Advocate for African Connect’s mission and programs within the community.
Key Knowledge and Skills Expectations:
•	Demonstrated experience in non-profit governance, accounting, finance, or legal sectors.
•	Understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by new African immigrants to Canada.
•	Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills.
•	Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
•	Commitment to African Connect’s mission and values.
•	Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups and stakeholders.
•	Previous board experience is an asset but not required.
•	
Time Commitment:
•	Attend quarterly board meetings (approximately 3 hours each).
•	Participate in committee meetings and special events as needed.
•	Approximately 5-10 hours per month, depending on ongoing projects and initiatives.
