Position Overview: AfroCare Support Network is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Board of Directors. As a board member, you will play a critical role in guiding the organization's strategic direction, ensuring strong governance, and providing oversight to support the achievement of our mission. We are looking for individuals passionate about positively impacting the African, Caribbean, and Black communities and bringing diverse skills, perspectives, and experiences to the board. Time commitment is 5-10 hours per month (including board meetings, preparation, and committee work) Key Responsibilities: • Participate in board meetings (typically held every 4-6 weeks) and actively contribute to discussions on strategic planning, policy development, and organizational growth. • Provide oversight to ensure that the organization’s activities align with its mission, vision, and values. • Participate in the evaluation of programs and services, helping to ensure that they are meeting the needs of ACB communities. • Serve as an ambassador for AfroCare Support Network by promoting the organization within your professional and personal networks. • Support fundraising initiatives by participating in events, and campaigns, and identifying potential donors or grants. • Contribute to board committees or working groups as needed (e.g., fundraising, governance, program development). • Engage in periodic assessments of the board’s performance and contribute to board recruitment and succession planning. Skills and Qualifications: • A commitment to AfroCare Support Network’s mission and values, with a passion for supporting African, Caribbean, and Black communities. • Knowledge of HIV/AIDs and/or lived experience is a great asset. • Prior experience serving on a non-profit board or in a leadership role is an asset, but not required. • Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas: non-profit management, health care, legal, financial management, fundraising, marketing, or community development. • Strong communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills. • The ability to dedicate sufficient time to attend board meetings, participate in committee work, and support the organization’s activities. • Experience or interest in issues related to HIV/AIDS awareness, mental health, or health advocacy is a plus.
