Calgary Seniors Friendly Visiting Volunteer
Loneliness is as harmful as a chronic illness, but a friendly face can make all the difference. Our Friendly Visiting Program uses a one-to-one match model, pairing a volunteer with a senior for regular visits that foster companionship and trust. The matching process is part science, part art, some might even say magic. Our team works hard to ensure seniors and volunteers are well matched, considering shared interests, personality compatibility, and availability. Once paired, seniors and volunteers schedule their visits directly, allowing for flexibility, independence, and autonomy. Most matches meet once a week for two to three hours, though some choose to meet more or less frequently depending on what works best for them. Many of these relationships last for years, with seniors often referring to their volunteer as being “like a daughter or son.” Behind the scenes, our team provides support, structure, safety oversight, and connection to additional resources as needed to ensure each match thrives long-term and remains meaningful for everyone involved.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
For volunteers, the Friendly Visiting Program offers the chance to build a deep, one-to-one relationship that truly matters. Volunteers experience meaningful connection, flexibility, and the reward of being a consistent presence in someone’s life.
