Shopping Companion Volunteer

6 months minimum 
The Shopping Companion Program blends practical support with meaningful social connection, creating something truly special. Using a one-to-one match model, the same volunteer and senior go shopping together each time—whether for groceries, toiletries, clothing, or other essentials. But these outings are about more than just shopping. Many pairs stop for lunch, grab a coffee, visit a favorite park, or browse a familiar corner store, making the experience as much about companionship as it is about errands. 

For seniors who may be hesitant about social support programs, this program provides a comfortable, natural way to build connections—like watching a movie on a first date, where the focus is on the shared activity rather than the pressure of direct interaction. Over time, deep friendships form, and seniors who once resisted social supports often find themselves happily engaged, with their lives transformed by an unexpected friendship. 

Participants schedule their own outings based on what works best for them, and our team provides behind-the-scenes support to ensure everything runs smoothly. The Shopping Companion Program is one of our most impactful offerings, proving that a simple errand can become a gateway to companionship, confidence, and joy.
