Food Security Program Assistant (Volunteer)
About the Organization: Founded initially as the Calgary Chinese Community Service Association (CCCSA) in 1978, and rebranded in 2021 as Diversecities, we are a community-based organization with the mission to create an inclusive and supportive society where all people have full and equitable access to all aspects of Canadian society. Our vision is to continue working on making Calgary and surrounding areas a welcoming home for immigrants of any cultural and ethnic origin, where they can feel meaningfully engaged in the community. We take part in building a more inclusive society by addressing cultural, social, economic, and language barriers, and acting as a bridge to private and public institutions. Diversecities is a community service organization that assists Calgarians in four key life areas: (a) economic integration, (b) social connection, (c) well-being, and (d) learning. These four key life areas are addressed through delivering programs and services that form Diversecities’ five pillars: Law & Advocacy, Bridge to the Community, Child & Youth, Health & Wellness, and Food Security. About the Program: Our Food Security Program provides food hamper support to low-income individuals and families who experience different language, social, and cultural barriers in accessing food. All food acquired through this program is donated by local shops, grocery stores, and other organizations, and rescue time varies. Distribution and delivery will occur weekly on Tuesdays at the downtown Calgary location (Dragon City Mall, Second floor. 328 Centre St S, Calgary, AB T2G 4X6) About the Role: Currently, we are looking for amazing volunteers to help us fill three different kinds of roles: 1. Food Hamper Organization and Distribution Volunteer Help receive food and pantry items and distribute them weekly to seniors and vulnerable families following the instructions of the project coordinator. - Food organization time runs from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm every Tuesday. - Distribution time runs from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. every Tuesday afternoon. - The location is in downtown Calgary; no car is needed. 2. Food Hamper Pick-up Driver Volunteer We are looking for some helping hands to help pick up rescue foods from various locations around Calgary: - Food Donation Warehouse: 8-10 am every Tuesday morning. - Participating Food Donors: Time varies and is flexible with personal schedule. - For this role, access to a car is required. 3. Food Delivery Driver Volunteer If you are happy to help deliver food to vulnerable people with mobility issues, there are opportunities for you. Food delivery time can be arranged based on both the volunteers’ and clients’ schedules. - Locations: varies within the City of Calgary - Time: every Tuesday after 2:00 pm - For this role, access to a car is required.
