Mental Well-Being Program Volunteer
About the Organization: Founded initially as the Calgary Chinese Community Service Association (CCCSA) in 1978, and rebranded in 2021 as Diversecities, we are a community-based organization with the mission to create an inclusive and supportive society where all people have full and equitable access to all aspects of Canadian society. Our vision is to continue working on making Calgary and surrounding areas a welcoming home for immigrants of any cultural and ethnic origin, where they can feel meaningfully engaged in the community. We take part in building a more inclusive society by addressing cultural, social, economic, and language barriers, and acting as a bridge to private and public institutions. Diversecities is a community service organization that assists Calgarians in four key life areas: (a) economic integration, (b) social connection, (c) well-being, and (d) learning. These four key life areas are addressed through delivering programs and services that form Diversecities’ five pillars: Law & Advocacy, Bridge to the Community, Child & Youth, Health & Wellness, and Food Security. About the Role: The Mental Well-Being Program Volunteer will provide general support to the Program Coordinator in the delivery of the Community Helpers Program, a training program designed to promote mental health awareness and knowledge of resources in the community, and equip participants with skills, knowledge, and resources to effectively provide peer support. This position requires the volunteer to be on location at Diversecities office (1406 Centre St N, Calgary AB T2E 2R9) to fulfill program needs; however, there is flexibility for some tasks to be done remotely. Responsibilities: • Assist with general tasks during training sessions (eg. Breakout/small group discussion, chat monitoring, lead small activities). • Support the Program Coordinator in preparing materials for various activities and events (eg. Suicide Prevention Month, World Mental Health Day). • General program promotion and community outreach. • Assist the Program Coordinator in preparing for, and implementing Open CHP training. Desired Personal Qualifications: • Passionate about mental health and supporting others. • Proactive, patient and creative. • Good communication and listening skills. • Good creative and business writing skills. • Comfortable with speaking in small and mid-sized groups, with the general public.
