Volunteer Board Member

3 hours / monthly
2 year period
About the Organization:
Founded initially as the Calgary Chinese Community Service Association (CCCSA) in 1978, and rebranded in 2021 as Diversecities, we are a community-based organization with the mission to create an inclusive and supportive society where all people have full and equitable access to all aspects of Canadian society. Our vision is to continue working on making Calgary and surrounding areas a welcoming home for immigrants of any cultural and ethnic origin, where they can feel meaningfully engaged in the community. We take part in building a more inclusive society by addressing cultural, social, economic, and language barriers, and acting as a bridge to private and public institutions.

Diversecities is a community service organization that assists Calgarians in four key life areas: (a) economic integration, (b) social connection, (c) well-being, and (d) learning. These four key life areas are addressed through delivering programs and services that form Diversecities’ five pillars: Law & Advocacy, Bridge to the Community, Child & Youth, Health & Wellness, and Food Security.

About the Role:
Diversecities is looking for two (2) new members to join Diversecities' Board of Directors. Volunteer Board Members are responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and support to the organization. The Board functions at the strategic level, focusing on expanding our visibility, advocacy, fund development, networking, and supporting community development.

We invite diverse, multicultural individuals with a passion to contribute and a willingness to champion our goals among your network and larger community. We are particularly looking for candidates with a financial background, or passion and experience in working with multicultural communities. Financial background with a preference for CPA designation (desired but not mandatory).

Previous experience on a volunteer Board of Directors is recommended but not mandatory.

Diversecities is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. Persons with relevant lived experience, First Nations, Metis and Inuit Peoples, Black people, and other people of colour, persons with disabilities, and persons of diverse gender identities are encouraged to submit their applications.
