Treasurer - Board of Directors
Board Job Description Authority and Responsibility The Board of Directors is the legal authority for The Federation of Calgary Communities. As a member of the Board, a Director acts in a position of trust for member community associations and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. Requirements Requirements of Board membership include: • Commitment to the objects and work of the organization. • Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: policy, finance, programs (accounting/audit, planning, organization development and marketing/communications), personnel, and advocacy. • Willingness to serve on committees. • Attendance at monthly Board meetings. • Attendance at meetings of assigned committees. • Attendance at Annual General Meetings. • Attendance at membership meetings (Area Councils and President’s Meetings). • Support of special events. • Support of, and participation in, fundraising events. • Participating in financially supporting The Federation of Calgary Communities by giving or by getting. Term Directors are elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting. Directors serve for a two-year term. Directors may be released from their duties, by resigning, or in accordance to The Federation of Calgary Communities’ bylaws. General Duties A Director is fully informed on organizational matters and participates in the Board’s deliberations and decisions in matters of policy, finance, programs, personnel and advocacy. The Director must: • Approve, where appropriate, policy and other recommendations received from the Board, its standing committees and senior staff. • Monitor all Board policies. • Review the bylaws and policy manual and recommend bylaw changes to the membership. • Review the Board’s structure, approve changes, and prepare necessary bylaw amendments. • Participate in the development of The Federation of Calgary Communities’ strategic plan and annual review. • Approve The Federation of Calgary Communities’ budget. • Approve the hiring and release of the Executive Director, including the Executive Director’s employment contract, in consultation with the Human Resources Committee. • Support and participate in evaluating the Executive Director. • Assist in developing and maintaining positive relations among the Board, committees, staff members, and community to enhance The Federation of Calgary Communities’ mission. Treasurer's Duties: a) The Treasurer shall ensure all moneys paid to The Federation are recorded and deposited. b) The Treasurer shall present a full detailed account of The Federation's receipts and disbursements to the Board whenever requested and shall present to the Annual Meeting a statement duly audited, as hereinafter set forth, of the financial position of The Federation and submit copies of same to the Secretary for the records of The Federation. c) The Treasurer shall perform any other duties as directed by the Board. Note: Due to the nature of our work, we are looking for a few CPA's in good standing to serve on our board.
