Calling all parents of Grade 4, 5 and 6 Students! Micro-volunteer opportunity with Habitat for Humanity!

Ongoing
Do you have a kid in Grade 4, 5, 6? Do they like helping people? Enter Habitat’s Meaning of Home Contest and they could win a tablet AND a pizza party AND give back to families in need of affordable housing, all at the same time!

Habitat for Humanity’s Meaning of Home contest is back for its 18th year on January 6th! The contest invites students in grades 4, 5, and 6 to submit a poem or essay explaining what home means to them.

The Meaning of Home contest, in support of Habitat for Humanity, is a great opportunity for students to learn about giving back to their community and the importance of having a safe home while improving their creative writing skills and raising money for their local Habitat organization.

Each submission entered in the contest provides your local Habitat (Habitat Southern Alberta in this case) with a $10 donation from Sagen™ 1, founding sponsor of the contest. Three grand prize winners, who will receive $30,000 for their local Habitat, and 9 runner-up winners, who will receive $10,000 for their local Habitat, will also receive prizes for themselves and their class thanks to our contest sponsors (pizza party, tablet etc.!).

Habitat has also created an education module to help teachers/parents prepare their kids for writing their entries through fun activities and lesson plans.

How to Enter:
-Be in grade 4, 5, or 6.
-Write a 50 – 300 word essay/poem/story about ‘what home means to you’.
-Submit your entry at meaningofhome.ca.

And just like that, you have taken part in a 'micro volunteer opportunity' and given back to the community!
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
