ESL- Part-Time Volunteer

2-4 hours / weekly

Volunteer Position Summary

Part-time ESL volunteers will assist ESL instructors in providing English language and related skills instruction, in a class of approximately ten older adult students. Volunteers will receive an orientation prior to starting.

The classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-12pm and are scheduled to run from September through April.

Responsibilities include:

· Creating a fun, interactive and informal class atmosphere; with a goal of improving conversational English.

· Preparing and organizing materials for a fun and engaging class (i.e., handouts, props, etc.).

· Assessing needs, objectives, and progress of each student in the class.

· Utilizing a variety of teaching methods and strategies appropriate to the students’ abilities.

· Securing and/or generating relatable materials to enrich the classroom experience.

· Providing appropriate reinforcement and feedback to students.

· Providing a respectful, constructive, and communicative classroom experience.

· Adhering to JFSC’s standards including representing the agency in a positive and professional manner.
