Kerby Assembly's mission is to support older adults to live well in their community. We have a vision of fostering a community of engaged older adults. The organization has existed since 1973 (licensed as a society in 1976) to enhance the quality of life for older adults - anyone at all over the age of 55. Membership is not a requirement for service.
Located in the heart of Calgary and Medicine Hat, Kerby Assembly sets the standard for older adult services. Approximately 30,000 people per year utilize services, information and programming. These resources play a critical role in ensuring that seniors have the opportunity to take actions that will enable them to live with dignity and maintain a level of independence by staying in their homes for as long as possible. Kerby Centre provides services to all quadrants of the City of Calgary and, beginning in 2021, also runs two senior centres in Medicine Hat.
To support our mission Kerby Assembly provides innovative health, wellness, and social service solutions to older adults and their support networks. The programs and services encourage older adults to pro-actively plan for life’s transitions. Services are geared to reducing the risk of social isolation, improving qualify of life, and positively impacting physical, emotional and psychological well-being. For over 40 years Kerby Assembly has provided older adults with solutions that have saved lives, restored lost friendships, reunited families, and strengthened communities. Current services in Calgary include housing referral, information and forms assistance, legal services, adult day program, wellness clinic, education and recreation, fitness room, shelter for abused seniors, grocery delivery for home bound seniors, food rescue and telephone support, Kerby News and volunteer opportunities. The senior centres in Medicine Hat promote active living through a variety of educational and recreational programming, volunteering opportunities and Meals on Wheels for the city as a whole.
Current Strategic Goals (2021-2023) are as follows:
• Programs and Services: Ensure that our programs and services are continually evolving to meet the needs of older adults.
• Partnerships and Collaborations: Ensure strategic partnerships and collaborations are in place to strengthen our reach, reputation, programs, and services.
• Sustainability: Ensure Kerby Assembly operations are robust, relevant, and sustainable.
