Mosaic Nights - Cultural Celebrations

1627 10 Ave SW, Calgary, AB, T3C 0J7 [map]
2-8 hours / quarterly
Ongoing
The Sunalta neighborhood is a vibrant tapestry of diverse individuals, encompassing all genders, ages, races, and sexualities. We proudly celebrate this diversity through our regular Community Cultural Celebrations, known as Mosaic Nights.

We have two exciting events coming up: East African Culture Night on November 21st 2024 and Lunar New Year on January 23rd, 2025. To make these events truly special, we are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join us! While lived experience related to the cultures being showcased is an asset, it is not a requirement to participate.

Here are some of the roles we are currently looking to fill:

- Event Planning: Join our cultural event planning committee! We welcome community members passionate about leadership and collaboration. With support from our staff and funding, you’ll help create meaningful and enjoyable experiences for our community.
- Marketing: Help us spread the word about our events! Use Canva to design eye-catching marketing materials that will promote our celebrations.
- Photographer: Capture the memorable moments of the night! No experience is necessary, but you will need to provide your own camera.
- Outreach: Assist in promoting our events by putting up posters around the neighbourhood and sharing information within your community.
- Cooking: Prepare a cold dessert dish representative of the culture being showcased, following Alberta Health Services (AHS) guidelines to ensure food safety.
- Entertainment: Bring the event to life with your performance! Whether as a soloist or part of a group, you can showcase a dance, song, or any other form of artistic expression.
- Setup and Cleanup: Help us ensure the event runs smoothly by assisting with setup before and takedown after the festivities.
- Food Servers: Be part of the team serving delicious food at the event.
- Check-in Desk: Welcome and register guests as they arrive. This role is a great opportunity for English practice and engaging with attendees.

The Sunalta Community Association is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment. We encourage individuals from all backgrounds, including Indigenous applicants and those of any religion, sex, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, to apply.

If you have any questions or need to discuss alternate accommodations, please reach out directly to grace@sunalta.net.

Join us in celebrating our diverse community—your involvement can make a difference!
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
A chance to build community, practice your language skills, build meaningful relationships, and make people feel safe and welcome.
