Board Director (Volunteer)

THE OPPORTUNITY
NEXUS Community Support Society is seeking new volunteer directors to join the Board, 
ideally located in Kamloops or Revelstoke, however candidates from other regions served by NEXUS will also be considered. 

The majority of NEXUS Board meetings are held virtually, 
but applicants must be willing to travel occasionally to meetings or events in other NEXUS communities. 

As one of largest non-profit organizations in BC's Interior, NEXUS Community Support Society is a registered charity that supports individuals with diverse abilities and developmental delays. Our services provide support for living, work and community inclusion. We are a proud member of Inclusion BC and are accredited by CARF® International, an independent, non-profit accreditor of health and human services. 

We are seeking experienced, strategic not-for-profit directors whose interests and values are aligned with our mission 
of Supporting and empowering individuals and families to live full lives. 

Ideally, you bring experience as a financial professional, lawyer, social worker, or possess other relevant business, healthcare, 
or governance expertise. Prior experience on a not-for-profit board is also highly valued. 

We are a governance board of approximately 9 to 11 directors, focused on providing strategic support and oversight 
to our dynamic CEO and leadership team, in pursuit of our Mission, Vision, Values and strategic goals.

DIRECTOR QUALIFICATIONS
Interested candidates must be a resident of British Columbia, and bring one or more of the following qualifications:
    • A financial designation (CPA) with senior-level financial leadership experience in the corporate, public and/or non-profit sectors;
    • A legal, governance or policy background with an understanding of the BC Societies Act and the not-for-profit governance 
       context;
    • Broad-based business or community experience with a passion for community living support and/or personal connection to our 
       work.

REQUIREMENTS
    • The ability to attend quarterly board meetings, committee meetings between board meetings and periodic board events 
       primarily during evenings and weekends. The minimum monthly commitment to board-related activities is approximately 6 hours.
    • A respectful style and desire to work collaboratively with like-minded compassionate colleagues in an open, honest and 
       productive manner for the benefit of our clients and in support of our staff.

TERM OR APPOINTMENT
Directors are expected to be able to commit to an initial term of term of two (2) years, 
with eligibility for re-appointment to a maximum of four (4) consecutive terms (eight years in total).
