Board Director - Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories

VOLUNTEER BOARD MEMBER OPPORTUNITY 

Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories is looking for volunteers to join our board.
The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories supports individuals through seven regional offices in Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Red Deer and Yellowknife. The Board of Directors sets the direction for the Society to enable the provision of education, resources, and support for persons with dementia, their families and care partners. The Board also supports and commit funds to dementia research to find a cause and cure.

ROLE OF THE BOARD
The Board of Directors is responsible for setting the vision and direction for the organization and will:
•	Be an influential voice and a credible source of information for policy makers and individuals dealing with the impacts of dementia.
•	Provide direction to strategically move the Society toward their preferred future.
•	Support dementia research provincially, nationally and globally to advance the search for a cause and cure.

BOARD MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of the Board of Directors, your key responsibilities are to:
•	Attend 4 board meetings a year (2 virtual and 2 in-person)
•	Actively participate on board and ad hoc committees by providing leadership, advice, and guidance. (committee meetings are virtual, each quarter) 
•	Advocate and promote the organization’s programs and services to advance the mission and vision of the Society
•	Act as an ambassador for the Society and for those living with dementia. 

The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories is looking for all qualified candidates, but is particularly interested in candidates that have experience in one or more of the following areas:
•	Board Governance
•	Board leadership and strategic planning
•	Not for profit and health sector experience
•	General awareness of dementia and brain health
