General Service Association of Anorexics and Bulimics Anonymous

The General Service Association (GSA) of Anorexics and Bulimics Anonymous (ABA) is a non-profit society incorporated under the Societies Act of the Province of Alberta in 2003. It consists of a Board of Directors elected for a two-year term by ABA members at the Annual General Meeting in March.
The Board includes between twelve and sixteen Directors, roughly half of whom are ABA
members. The other half are people from outside ABA, some of whom have experience in other 12-Step Fellowships. Each individual brings their own unique perspective, skills, and talents to the Board.
The GSA is responsible for making financial and other organizational decisions for the well-being of ABA as a whole. It is also responsible for the smooth and
efficient operation of ABA’s World Service Office, located in Edmonton.
Using the same program and principles as Alcoholics Anonymous, ABA has helped hundreds of hopeless men and women recover from eating disorders. In ABA, we approach our eating disorder as an addiction and seek a spiritual solution for our obsessions, which we have come to learn are rooted in the same core of self-hatred that lies beneath all addiction. Of course, we always encourage our members to first seek professional treatment for the physical aspects of the illness before embarking on the 12-Step spiritual journey.
