River Valley News - Exciting opportunity to take full responsibility to compose and publish a brief weekly Edmonton and area environmental awareness newsletter across multiple social media platforms, for a local respected non-profit organization.

Ongoing
Each week, one of our board members publishes an approximately 600
 - 800 word weekly newsletter containing several interesting and intriguing articles each with a photo and a couple of paragraphs of text, discussing something of interest relevant to Edmonton's river valley.

The newsletter goes to 2,400 regular subscribers and it raises awareness for the value and importance of the river valley to the city and the public.
Last year the NSRVCS was a finalist for the 33rd Annual Emerald Awards for this weekly informative newsletter, called the River Valley News. The newsletter is distributed via the NSRVCS MailChimp account.

Prior copies of the newsletter can be found here: https://www.edmontonrivervalley.org/newsletter

This board member is leaving the NSRVCS board in March 2025 and due to other commitments will not be able to continue to write this engaging and informative newsletter.

The NSRVCS is looking for a volunteer to take on the newsletter responsibilities which includes finding several appropriate stories, a relevant picture, writing a couple of paragraphs under each story, assembling the newsletter, sending it out through MailChimp and posting the newsletter link on the NSRVCS website, and the NSRVCS social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook, and X (Twitter).

The NSRVCS is an entirely volunteer board. We would ask that whomever volunteers for the newsletter responsibilities attempts to take on this role for at least 6 months and after that period evaluate if they want to continue or not.

We are also open to moving to a less frequent publishing schedule such as every two weeks if that works better.

A volunteer could start anytime, shadowing the board member currently doing the newsletter, however we were looking to fill the position no later than February 2025.

Thank you
Stephen Madsen
President NSRVCS
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
The volunteer would gain experience in creating and posting interesting and intriguing river valley and environmentally related articles about the Edmonton River Valley probably learning additional details about the river valley and the environment around Edmonton in the process. They would also gain the experience of posting written articles across multiple social media platforms, and hopefully we can continue to increase the readership of the newsletter.
