Young Minds Academy Tutor

2-4 hours / weekly
4 months +
Young Minds Eye is a non-profit organization with the aim to provide educational resources to the underprivileged population. We want to support all children who cannot attend school for some time or need extra help but are having difficulties finding the right resources or finances for that help.

As a tutor, you play a big role in making a positive direct impact on young students. Your role as a tutor include:

Remote:
- Conducting one-one sessions with tutee via zoom/google meets 
- Engage tutees trough a virtual setting
- Making lesson plans with specific, attainable goals that you and your tutees can work toward
- Supporting your tutees in overcoming their learning obstacles 
- Encouraging your tutees to solve the problems independently and challenge their way of thinking 
- Reviewing hard concepts with your tutees 
- Creating/finding extra learning resources for tutees to test your tutees' understanding of difficult concepts
 -Attending team meeting once a month (subject to change)

In-person:
- Conduct one-on-one sessions with the tutees in local schools in Edmonton and Calgary
-  Keep tutee engaged in the lesson
- Making lesson plans with specific, attainable goals that you and your tutees can work toward
- Supporting your tutees in overcoming their learning obstacles 
- Encouraging your tutees to solve the problems independently and challenge their way of thinking 
- Reviewing hard concepts with your tutees 
- Creating/finding extra learning resources for tutees to test your tutees' understanding of difficult concepts
 -Attending team meeting once a month (subject to change)


Note: 
Our program provides both in-person service, which is happening at local schools in Edmonton and Calgary, and online service one-on-one, which will be coordinated by our Program Coordinator and Volunteer Executive.

Qualifications: 
- GED (High School Diploma)
- 18+ years old
- Police Record Check is required
- Must be Physically Located in Calgary or Edmonton
