Do you have an amazing pet that loves social interaction and attention? Join our Pet Therapy Team as a volunteer and share your pet's personality, quirks, and tricks with residents in our continuing care facilities. Pet visits provide valuable companionship and mental stimulation, promoting feelings of happiness and enhancing social interaction among our residents.

Position Summary: As a Pet Visitor volunteer, you will facilitate controlled interactions between your pet and our residents. Your presence with your pet can have a calming effect and contribute to the well-being of our residents. Sharing memories of beloved pets can also foster meaningful conversations and connections.

Responsibilities:
Pet Interaction: Allow residents to interact with your pet in a controlled and supervised manner.
Conversations: Engage in quiet conversations about pets, past memories, and shared experiences.
Safety Measures: Ensure your pet is always leashed and under your continuous control. Promptly clean up after your pet to maintain cleanliness and safety.
Liability: Understand that you are solely responsible for any injuries or damages caused by your pet during visits.
Compliance: Adhere to facility guidelines and any instructions provided by the administrator or designated staff regarding pet conduct and behavior.

Expectations of Volunteers:
Be reliable, punctual, and trustworthy.
Respect confidentiality and the rights of the residents.
Approach interactions with a non-judgmental attitude.
Be open to accountability and constructive feedback.

Qualifications:
Compassionate and empathetic, with a genuine interest in caring for seniors.
Ability to facilitate group interactions and engage residents of varying abilities.
Patience and sensitivity in interacting with seniors, understanding cognitive and emotional needs.
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of residents.
Previous experience in pet therapy or working with seniors is advantageous but not required.
A vulnerable sector check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination are mandatory.
