Are you bilingual or multilingual? Do you enjoy connecting with others through language and cultural exchange? Join us as a second language volunteer and make a meaningful impact on the lives of residents who may feel isolated due to language barriers.

Position Summary: As a Second Language Companion, you will provide one-on-one visits to residents who struggle with English, offering companionship and engaging them in activities that promote social interaction and cognitive stimulation. You'll have the opportunity to converse in their first language, share stories, play games, listen to music, or assist residents in strengthening their communication skills.

Responsibilities:
Companionship: Visit residents one-on-one and engage them in conversations and activities in their first language.
Activity Engagement: Play games, listen to music, sing along, or facilitate activities that keep minds and bodies active.
Cross-opportunity: This role may overlap with other companion opportunities, providing flexibility and varied experiences.

Expectations of Volunteers:
Be reliable, punctual, and trustworthy.
Respect confidentiality and the rights of the residents.
Approach interactions with a non-judgmental attitude.
Be open to accountability and constructive feedback.

Qualifications:
Compassionate and patient demeanor with a genuine interest in helping seniors.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when needed.
Flexibility and creativity in adapting activities to meet the diverse needs of residents.
Previous experience working with seniors or in a caregiving role is a plus, but not required.
A vulnerable sector check is required.
