Board Co-Treasurer

This position is shared with a community volunteer and a parent volunteer. The position has historically been divided into Revenue and Disbursements, but can be adjusted as necessary. The Treasurer oversees and monitors financial performance of the organization and reports on it to the Board. He/she is also responsible for maintaining accurate books of accounting with the assistance of a bookkeeper. The Treasurer has primary signing authority for all financial transactions and is responsible for the maintenance of the organization’s bank account including negotiating mortgages, loans and managing cash flow. He/she is also responsible for the development of an annual budget and the implementation of financial policies for the organization. Duties and Responsibilities: Maintains knowledge of Mother Goose and has a personal commitment to its goals and objectives Serves as a financial officer for Mother Goose and stays in regular contact with the Bookkeeper Collects, receives and disburses funds and maintains accurate accounting records Maintains payroll with the aid of the Bookkeeper, ensuring employees are paid on time Works with the President and the Bookkeeper to ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the Board on a timely basis Prepares a financial statement at the fiscal year-end with the Bookkeeper Arranges, reviews, presents the annual audit if required and answers Board Member’s questions about the audit Prepares a financial report for each Board meeting on the financial position of the Centre and makes recommendations for adjustments as required Maintains term deposits and other investments as outlined by the Board (if applicable) Maintains an up-to-date General Ledger for the Centre, Receiver General, EHT and HST (Bookkeeper, if applicable) Completes Income Tax forms – T4s and TD1 or any additional forms as required (Bookkeeper, if applicable) Works with Bookeeper to submit forms for the Ministry of Community, Family and Children Services (i.e. wage enhancement, pay equity, CWELCC etc.) Note: Mother Goose employs a bookkeeper who works with our Treasurer(s). Qualifications: Knowledge of and experience in accounting and/or bookkeeping is helpful to this position Estimated Time Commitment: Expected hours: 1-5 hrs per week throughout the school year and 10-15 hrs over the summer break. Ideally this person would be willing to stay on for more than one year.
