NatureKids BC (Young Naturalist Clubs of BC Society)
NatureKids BC’s mission is to help children get outdoors to explore, play, learn about, and take action for nature.
We know that kids need nature. They become healthier, happier, and more focused when outdoors.
The natural world also needs them. The world is facing large challenges related to nature and sustainability: climate change, wildlife decline, and shrinking natural spaces. To solve these challenges, we need to ensure that children and youth develop a love for nature and drive to protect it.
We know that this love comes from children having ongoing meaningful moments engaging with nature--but studies show that children are spending increasingly more time indoors and online.
NatureKids BC encourages children aged 5-12 and their families to get outside and discover nearby nature through a network of volunteer-led family nature clubs. They discover the wonders of the natural world as they explore outdoors on Explorer Day field trips, read about nature in NatureWILD magazine, and take action for the environment with stewardship projects and citizen science initiatives.
As a result, children who participate in NatureKids BC’s programs develop a lifelong love for the natural world and a strong desire to take action to protect it.
