Learning Coach Volunteer - Digital Skills
Adult learners come to the table with a lifetime of experiences and a variety of strengths and challenges. Your commitment to a learner gives them the opportunity to see themselves as successful. Learning is not always a fast process. We ask that you plan on investing a minimum of 4-6 months, 1-2 hours a week. We offer professional development, ongoing support and resources for you to take the first steps in a rewarding journey of discovery. Responsibilities: •Attend basic orientation for new volunteers and workshops relevant to coaching. •Meets weekly with an adult learner to help them progress towards their learning goals. •Treats learners with respect as a mature and capable learning partner. •Maintains confidentiality and abides by guidelines. •Tracks time spent and progress. •Communicates regularly with the Literacy Services Coordinator. •Completes forms and progress reports in a timely manner.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
This program is part of a provincial network wherein there are many on-line and in-person trainings available. All trainings are free or low cost. You will learn skills in teaching and tutoring, as well as regarding trauma-informed practices and inclusion and diversity. The library is also a wonderful place for community connection.
