Site Maintenance & Invasive Species Removal Volunteer

24 hours
Minimum of three months
The NSOBP facility property is over 20 acres in size on rural, semi-forested Provincial Crown Land. Maintaining the property is important for keeping the buildings, roads, aviaries, and ultimately the owls, safe. This volunteer role is best suited for those who like to work outside and get their hands dirty! We are open 365 days a year, so be prepared to work in inclement weather. Tools and equipment, as well as a volunteer orientation and specific training, will be provided.

Examples of volunteer tasks include:
-Removing invasive plants such as Himalayan blackberry
-Grass cutting using weedwhackers
-Pruning, weeding, and raking
-Planting ferns, trees, and shrubs
-Shoveling gravel and filling potholes

Please note:
Volunteers MUST be at least 16 years of age and be able to drive themselves to the site (no pick ups/drop offs, not accessible by public transportation). Please do not apply if you do not fulfill this requirement.

The NSOBP is a non-smoking work environment and is not wheel chair accessible.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Be associated with the British Columbia Conservation Foundation, one of the longest-standing conservation initiatives in the province.

Be part of a team working to restore the population of one of the most endangered and iconic species in Canada.

Networking opportunities, social events with other NSOBP volunteers, and exclusive tours of our facility.

Reference provided by request after three months of ongoing volunteering.
