Minds in Motion, Assistant [Locations available across B.C.]
A program for people living with early-stage dementia to engage in physical and social recreation while accompanied by a care partner, friend or family member. DESCRIPTION Gentle exercises are followed by social activities designed to be enjoyed in pairs. Coffee, tea and light refreshments are provided. Care partners must attend. “The instructors and volunteers are friendly and we can tell they truly care how we are feeling. They make this program inclusive and fun. We love the camaraderie and great people.” - Minds in Motion® participant RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS Provide support to participants during the fitness program • Assist with set-up and clean-up of refreshments, games and activities • Help ensure everyone has the opportunity to be included, has an enjoyable experience, and is able to participate in activities and socializing SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE Required • Enjoy being with people; comfortable reaching out and including others • Patient, friendly and fun; comfortable in a non-competitive, inclusive environment • Sensitive to boundaries in working with vulnerable adults • Physically able to participate in the fitness part of the program • Some lifting (moving tables, chairs, supplies and equipment) and standing Preferred • Experience working with older adults and/or people with dementia would be helpful TRAINING All Minds in Motion assistants will complete e-Learning modules through our volunteer portal and participate in on-site training.
