Family Literacy Outreach Program - Virtual Tutor [literacy, ESL, tutoring, mentoring, education, family, settlement]

Program Overview
• Free ESL program for newcomer families with children under six in
Vancouver
• 4-hour virtual training for volunteers
• Tutors are matched with immigrant/refugee families
• Focuses on strengthening English skills and connecting families to
community resources
• Delivered virtually through Zoom
Tutor Responsibilities
• Conduct weekly one-hour virtual tutoring sessions for a minimum 6
month commitment
• Build language skills for newcomers
• Suggest relevant community resources
Program Activities
• Listening, reading, speaking, writing, and numeracy activities
• Fun, interactive learning for adults
Qualifications
• 19 years or older
• Fluent in spoken and written English (Grade 12 English or equivalent)
• Clear Criminal Record Check
• Two non-family references
• Empathetic and respectful of diversity
