Seniors Transportation Volunteer Driver (South Vancouver Neighbourhood House)

5 hours / monthly

Volunteer Role: Volunteer Driver
Program/Project: Community Based Seniors Services

Objectives:
•	To improve the quality of life for older adults with mobility challenges who are unable to take other forms of transportation.
•	To help older adults live independently in their own homes, reduce social isolation, and ease transportation challenges to attend to day-to-day tasks and errands.

Key Responsibilities: 
•	Transport riders from their homes to their chosen destinations.
•	Provide assistance to riders as needed.
•	Report any incidents and emergencies immediately to program coordinator.
•	Call in if unavailable to make it to a scheduled shift.
•	Keep accurate records and submit the required receipts and reports
•	Attend all required orientation and training
•	Treat all riders with dignity and respect
•	Conduct a health self-assessment before each ride.

Qualifications: 
•	Be 21 years of age or older
•	Hold a valid driver’s license, registration and insurance and be willing to provide copies of these documents
•	Have a minimum of five years driving experience
•	Have a clean driving record (abstract)
•	Have $5M in third party liability insurance
•	Own a trustworthy vehicle
•	Respect Confidentiality
•	Respect and abide by SVNH’s policies, procedures and codes of conduct and ethics
•	Be in good physical and mental health
•	Be physically able to assist riders should it be required
•	Willingness to drive without distractions (cell phone, texting, eating while driving)
•	Able to consistently drive safely and obey traffic laws
•	Reliable and punctual
•	Empathetic, compassionate and non-judgmental
•	Sensitivity towards older adults and people from diverse cultures.
•	Willingness to help make a difference in the lives of older adults.
•	Provide two (non-family) reference and pass a criminal record check administered by SVNH.

Schedule: Changeable; based on demand.

Time Commitment: 5 hours per month minimum.

Benefits to Volunteer: The opportunity to share your knowledge with and engage with a not-for-profit social service organization, and to contribute to your community in a significant way.

Honorarium: An honorarium of $10.00 - $15.00 per transportation service will be provided. The amount will be dependent on distance and length of wait with the senior and determined by staff. The honorarium includes compensation for mileage. A lump sum with total honorarium amount will be sent once per month.
