Big Sisters newest program! My Voice, My Power! is in its pilot stage, come be apart of shaping its development while having fun and engaging with youth in your community! Is an after-school group mentoring program that engages critical dialogue and skill building to promote protective factors against gender-based violence for girls and gender diverse youth in grades 4-7. The program supports learning through fun age-appropriate, child-centered methodologies such as physical activities, educational games, art, outdoor learning and activities to stimulate relationship-building, as well as self-reflection and group discussions. Mentor Requirements: • A woman, non-binary, transgender or gender-diverse individual, 19 years and up • Reliable, resourceful, and interested in building relationships with children • Available 2-3 hours (in-program and planning) at least one consistent weekday between the hours of 2:30-5 pm for the eight-week term (typically Tues/Wed/Thurs) • Passionate about deconstructing stereotypes and myths about gender, human rights and advocacy, healthy relationships and boundary setting, internet safety and more Volunteer mentors will co-facilitate a group of youth in school. Your Mentoring Coordinator will attend some, but not all sessions, and provide ongoing support and guidance throughout the duration of the program.
