Shop Ambassador

Craft Council of British Columbia is a charitable arts service organization. It supports all stages of artistic practice in the craft sector; and creates opportunities for artists to exhibit, sell, and produce art. It also provides a voice for artists and craft organizations and aids in the development of active communities around craft.

We are seeking volunteers to serve as shop ambassadors in the Craft Council’s Social Enterprise. These folks will be the first impression of the Craft Council of BC and be responsible for interacting with the high volume of visitors we receive over the summer months. We are looking for people who are enthusiastic, confident, warm, and welcoming. This is a customer service position. You will be trained and equipped with comprehensive knowledge about the Craft Council of British Columbia, the artists we represent, and the work that we carry. This role is perfect for those enthusiastic about supporting local artists, connecting with the general public, and who love items made by hand!

Shop Ambassador at the Craft Council of BC:
- Inspire, educate, and engage the community in craft-based artwork
- Foster excellence and professionalism in the environment of the Craft Council of BC
- Preserve, promote, and grow the existing interest in contemporary craft and craft artists

Time Commitment
We are looking to fill roles on Saturday and Sunday. At the moment the commitment is for 3 months (June – August). The shifts available are from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm or 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm. 

Tasks may include:

• Greeting visitors
• Delivering informative tours of the shop and gallery
• Spending the majority of your shift in the shop space talking with, or being available to talk to the visitors of the shop and gallery. 
• Greeting the visitors of tour buses that are dropped off on Granville Island, giving them our information, and walking with them to the shop if needed.
• Handing out flyers on Granville Island and in Vancouver
• Counting inventory
• Weighing and measuring products in the shop
• Dusting, tidying, and rearranging shop displays 
• Assisting shop staff as needed 


Requirements

• Ability to commit to volunteering for three hours per week for at least three months
• English as a first language, or fluent in English
• Good communication skills
• Warm, friendly, and outgoing
• Willing to learn
• Works well independently and as part of a team
• Genuine interest and enjoyment of art and working with the general public 
• 16 years of age or older
