Tax Intake Volunteer (FIRST UNITED)
First United processes thousands of income tax returns for low-income Downtown Eastside residents to enable them to access vital benefits. In 2023, First United recouped over $600k for community members. Reporting to the CVITP Income Tax Coordinator, Tax Return Volunteers meet with community members to assist them in the preparation and submission of income tax returns. The duties & responsibilities of the Tax Intake Volunteer are as follows: - Meet with community members to gather information on taxable income and deductions - Report any processing issues to the CVITP Income Tax Coordinator - Preparation of tax related info and reports Skills & Experience: - Minimum of 2 years recent experience in income tax preparation or accounting. - Thorough and current knowledge of CRA regulations. - Strong attention to detail and accuracy and strong numeracy skills. - Skillful communicator, able to adapt style to the needs of each community member, showing patience and kindness in all interactions. - Ability to gather relevant information and explain tax related issues clearly Schedule & Timeframe: - Must be available during the Tax season (March, April, and May) - Flexible hours. Commitment to be determined with CVITP Income Tax Coordinator but will be required for a minimum of 3-4hrs per week.
Certification or Education Required
- Tax and/or Accounting background - CRA regulations
