A brief summary of Girls to the Power of Math:
Girls to the Power of Math (G^M) is a Not-for-Profit organization based in BC, Canada. We provide FREE after-school programming for elementary school girls to boost their confidence in math through fun games and mentorship.

G^M was developed based off of the results from a study conducted by Alexa Bailey to evaluate whether confidence differs between genders over the course of elementary school. Results showed that girls’ confidence in math declines as they get older.

So, we are looking for high school and university female-identifying mentors to teach elementary school girls math from Grades 2 to 4, with the goal of increasing mathematics confidence, and MAKE MATH FUN. Through using fun games, art, music and physical activity to teach skip counting and multiplication skills, we provide a unique approach to learning mathematics.

Weekly class structure:
Each class is one-hour long, divided into about 30 minutes of lecturing and another 30 minutes of math-related fun games and activities.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Mentors are responsible for leading a 10-week program with at least 2 other mentors once a week for an hour, based on a set lesson plan. Mentors will work as tutors with program participants, lead games and activities, and will be awarded volunteer hours for their efforts. We are looking for well-organized and punctual people who are able to communicate well with children. Mentors should also be comfortable adapting and responding quickly to students' needs and levels of understanding.
