Britannia Community Centre, Gym D, 1661 Napier Street, Vancouver, BC [map]
6 hours
Grandview Woodland Community Seed Library (GWCSL) is hosting a Seedy Saturday on March 15, 2025.
What is a Seedy Saturday?
Seedy Saturdays are grassroots community events dedicated to the distribution and exchange of open-pollinated and heritage seeds. During events, attendees can exchange seeds with other community members and learn about seed saving. Seedy Saturdays are meant to be low/no-cost events that allow people to give and receive seeds, as well as get to know their neighbours and gardening community.
About the Grandview Woodland Community Seed Library
The Grandview Woodland Community Seed Library (GWCSL) has been in operation since 2018. We are a group of gardeners and plant enthusiasts dedicated to creating opportunities for people to access free seeds, and educate people on gardening and seed saving.

We’re looking for volunteers to help with our 2025 Seedy Saturday! All volunteer shifts will be from 10 am to 3:30 pm on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Britannia Community Centre. Responsibilities include helping with set up and take down, as well as roles during the event.
Volunteer roles include
Entry/door: You’ll work with other volunteers to welcome attendees, collect coin donations, answer questions, monitor event capacity, and more.
Free seed tables: GWCSL will have an area for seeds that we are giving away. Volunteers will answer questions, distribute seeds, and keep inventory of seed stock.
Community seed swap: Members of the public will be bringing seeds to share. These volunteers will answer questions, check seeds, and sort seeds as they come in.
Activities table: We will have activities for kids, colouring sheets, and more. Volunteers will help distribute these items and explain the activities.

Training: Training will be provided for all volunteer roles in advance of the event.

Volunteer requirements:
We ask that volunteers have some general gardening and/or seed saving experience.
Availability for the entire shift on March 15, 2025 (10am-3:30pm). There will be a lunch break.
Comfortable and interested in working with the public, talking to other gardeners, and sharing information or knowledge.
For the door/entry position, past experience with cash handling duties and comfortable monitoring event capacity.
We require volunteers to be at least 16 years old.

COVID-19 precautions:
We will operate to allow for social distancing wherever possible and in accordance with any public health restrictions. We require volunteers to wear masks for set-up and the first half of the event so that a portion of the event can be accessible to immunocompromised individuals. Additional health and safety precautions may be adopted ahead of the event; volunteers will be notified of any changes. (E.g. a switch to a mask requirement for all volunteers and visitors.)
