CALL FOR BOARD CANDIDATES - Human Resources Leader

The Kettle Society is looking for a senior Human Resources professional to join its Board of Directors in January 2025. 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate is a strategic leader with demonstrated experience in executive oversight and performance management and with the knowledge and governance skills to serve as Chair of the Executive Director Oversight & Compensation Committee within the first six months. 

The Kettle is always looking to expand its Board of Directors with diversified voices and perspectives that can enhance the alignment of governance with the lived experience of its member clientele.  As a director on The Kettle Society’s policy governance board, you would work with skilled colleagues to govern the delivery of services and influence organizational capacity to empower those living with mental illness, substance use, poverty, and homelessness to live more fully in the broader community.

You are a generative thinker and thoughtful in carrying out your oversight duties. Your experience, energy, insights, and time commitment will be invaluable in ensuring that The Kettle Society builds firmly on its nearly 50 years as a highly respected mental health support service and partner of choice for governments, funders, and all those who care about mental health.  

The Kettle is preparing to launch a major capital campaign to fulfill a core building replacement goal in its strategic plan. You are well-connected in your communities and may bring a track record of engaging your networks in raising funds and/or accessing the many and varied types of philanthropic support necessary to fulfilling the Kettle’s near- and long-term goals.

The ideal candidate has lived experience with mental illness or supporting those living with mental illness and understands Vancouver’s mental health, housing and substance use challenges and the effects of stigma and discrimination on mental health outcomes.

DUTIES
•	Attendance at up to 10 meetings per year, virtual or in-person, including periodic Board development workshops and member advisory council meetings
•	Active participation on at least one committee, with attendant duties 
•	Attendance at key Kettle events such as Art Against Stigma and the annual member picnic

GENERAL EXPERIENCE
•	Experience with issues faced by vulnerable populations
•	Employment, volunteer or oversight role in social services organization focused on mental health and related services, healthcare, government, social services or related fields
•	Commitment to The Kettle’s low-barrier approach to supporting people where they are 
•	Experience with fund development networks an asset
