The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is a lay Catholic organization whose mission it is: to serve Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice, hope and joy, and to help shape a more just and compassionate society.

In Canada alone, the SSVP helps more than 350,000 people each year. We provide material support in the form of non-perishable food, clothes, household items and furniture to individuals and families across the country. Whether in their homes, on the street, in shelters, in hospitals or in prison, our work knows no boundaries.

In Vancouver, SSVP is known for its two thrift stores where they provide second hand goods (furniture, clothing, and household goods) at low or no cost to the community. The Main Street thrift store offers emergency food bags and a free bread basket. The Society is also known for its Outreach Van which, through the power of volunteers, provides sandwiches, drinks, and treats to the Vancouver Downtown Eastside community.
