Urban Native Youth Association ( UNYA) Mentorship Program matches Indigenous youth ages 12 to 15 with trained volunteer mentors. Our program offers youth early guidance, encouragement, and fun—rooted in culture and community. You’ll spend 2–4 hours each week with your mentee for at least one year—doing activities the youth chooses, like sports, arts, culture, or just hanging out. Plus, you’ll get to join staff-led group outings like canoeing, movies, cultural based activities, and other fun activities in community. Our mentors also have access to donated tickets to movies, theatre, hockey, and more! Your Role as a Mentor: • Inspire and guide youth by modeling positive behaviors and encouraging exploration • Support younger teens in building confidence and making good choices, Plan activities together • Share fun experiences together – from community events to outdoor activities, all time is spent in community spaces, never in each other’s homes. Training & support: • Comprehensive screening and onboarding • Training completed prior to mentoring: Three programs through Len Pierre Consulting: Introduction to Indigenous Cultural Safety, Indigenous Trauma & Equity-Informed Practice, and Indigenous Allyship and Anti-Racism Training. • Training on UNYA Philosophy of care including boundaries and basic counselling skills. FOIPPA Foundations Privacy and Access Fundamentals • Continuous professional development offered periodically during the year • Regular check-ins and support from UNYA staff Who Can Apply: • Applicants must be 21 years or older to apply as a mentor • Volunteers from all backgrounds are welcome. • Must be able to successfully complete a criminal record check • Must be willing to come to Vancouver to meet their mentee How to Apply: Have questions or ready to apply?
