Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary Society

Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary is an accessible urban green space, located on the traditional lands of the lək ̓ʷəŋən peoples. The wetland around Swan Lake and the Garry oak-forest on top of Christmas Hill encompasses 160 acres of critical migratory bird habitat, with roughly 10% of the municipality’s rare, threatened, and endangered species represented on site.
The Sanctuary also serves as a living classroom, fostering a greater understanding of nature through direct experience. Educational programs are available for all ages that encourage stewardship of the natural environment. On average, over 17,000 youth and other learners participate in educational programming each year. There are over 200 active volunteers that support conservation of the site’s lands and waters and inspire stewardship through assisting with education programs and visitor experience.
