Volunteer Opportunity: Assist Speech-Language Pathologist in Aphasia Conversation Group

Are you passionate about helping others and interested in supporting individuals with communication challenges? We’re looking for dedicated volunteers to assist our Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and/or Communicative Disorders Assistants (CDAs) in our Aphasia Conversation Groups. Your role will help stroke survivors and others living with aphasia practice their communication skills in a supportive environment! As an Aphasia Program Volunteer, you will work under the guidance of the SLP and/or CDA to: - Support adults living with aphasia and other acquired communication disorders in group discussions and language-based activities. - Use supportive conversation techniques to assist clients in understanding and participating - Help create a welcoming and encouraging environment where clients feel comfortable practicing their language skills. - Set up and clean up materials used during group activities. - Maintain confidentiality as per H-PCAP’s guidelines. Requirements: - Strong communication, patience, and empathy. - Willingness to learn and use supportive conversation strategies. - Ability to commit to a regular weekly schedule. - Experience with communication disorders is an asset, but not required. Full training will be provided.
