Sewing volunteers
ongoing
We are looking for some volunteers who have extra fabric, a sewing machine and some time to give. Basic sewing skills only needed. What will you be making you ask? Belongings bags for patients belongings and shirt savers (adult bibs) When people pass away at our hospice, rather than pack their belongings in plastic bags, we like to be able to give their families some fabric bags that they can lovingly pack their loved ones belongings in to take home. These can then be kept as a treasured reminder or as a grocery shopping bag that every time they use it, they think of their person. As many of our patients need support during feeding we utilize shirt savers to help keep the patient clean. These are usually made out of towels or terry cloth.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
You will be making items that will hold treasured belonging of people who have passed away. You will be practicing basic sewing skills (pattern given), getting rid of fabrics you no longer need, and a letter of reference if requested would be supplied. As well and making shirt savers to support and continue the dignity of our patients.
