Urgently Needed - Volunteer Driver
Surrey-North Delta Meals on Wheels is a volunteer community service that delivers fresh, nutritious meals Monday - Friday to anyone who, by reason of age, physical or mental handicap or illness, cannot prepare adequate meals for themselves. We have been serving the communities of Surrey, North Delta and Cloverdale since 1970 and are currently serving over 100 clients. Volunteers are the cornerstone of Meals on Wheels and we are always looking for new volunteers, whether it's on a weekly or relief basis. Without our dedicated and committed group of volunteers, our important community service would not be possible! As a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels, you will be responsible for: - the pick up of meals from our location, - the delivery of meals to our clients, - and the return of delivery supplies to our location. Volunteers are needed from 9:30am - 12:30pm, times are dependent on route and number of meals/clients on that route. Drivers can commit to doing a route on a weekly basis or on a relief basis depending on availability. Volunteers are required to have a class 5 Canadian drivers license, must be able to read and follow maps, and will be reimbursed $0.80 per km travelled for vehicle expenses. They are also required to fill out a criminal record check at no cost. Having excellent interpersonal skills and being compassionate and sensitive to the needs of seniors and those that are homebound are great assets for this position.
