Program Co-Facilitator (Maple Ridge, BC)
After Stroke BC provides services, education and advocacy to those affected by stroke, throughout every stage of recovery. Our mission is to empower survivors to live fulfilling, independent lives post-stroke. Our vision is for every stroke survivor to move through recovery with hope and support to lead a full and rewarding life. We work in partnership with March of Dimes Canada (MODC). The Stroke Recovery Program supports stroke survivors find their way after stroke. The Co-Facilitator plays an active role in engaging with participates to gain the most from the program. The purpose of the program is to provide stroke survivors the opportunity to connect with other stroke survivors in the community and enjoy social interaction and peer support. The Co-Facilitator will have a direct role in developing programing for and engaging with stroke survivors in the community. Responsibilities: • Co-lead and actively participate in weekly program sessions • Collaborate with co-lead to facilitate activities that enrich participants' engagement • Prepare and plan fun and engaging activities for the group to participate in • Provide participants with community resources to enhance engagement • Complete room set up and clean up before and after session • Utilize a variety of supportive communication strategies that support participants with communication challenges to participate fully in program activities • Provide ongoing communication with participants via telephone and/or email • Liaise with venue as needed Requirements: • 19 years of age or older • Lived experience as a stroke survivor, caregiver, or someone with knowledge of/experience with individuals affected by stroke an asset • Experience/education in the social services sector • Ability to take initiative • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Reliable, understanding, collaborative and respectful • Prior volunteer experience an asset • Team-oriented, personable • English (verbal and written) required Must be available to attend weekly program on Fridays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in-person in Maple Ridge
