Social Media & Marketing Team Lead: maintain and boost our digital presence!

5-8 hours / weekly
Ideally 1 year minimum commitment.
The Mental Health Society of Greater Victoria (MHS) is seeking a new lead for our social media team! 

We are a 100% volunteer-run organization, and our mission is to improve mental health in Victoria by creating mental health-related educational material and assisting community members as they navigate the local mental health system. Social media is a critical aspect of how we connect with our community! We need a social media team leader who can spearhead our social media presence, improve our visibility through various marketing channels and stay on brand 

As the team lead, you will be in charge of a small team of volunteers that create and post content on our website and social media platforms (currently: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin) as well as overseeing/updating our website as needed. You will also work closely with our Newsletter & Blog Manager. 

In this leadership role, you will be leading biweekly online meetings for the social media team, facilitating brainstorming sessions, and overseeing the completion of all social media tasks and updates on our website. The team lead is also expected to assist with online recruitment for the team members when needed and maintain consistent communication with other members of MHS leadership. This involves attending monthly online meetings with the organization’s directors and other team leaders to provide updates on your team’s progress. 

The ideal candidate will have the following skills:
- Passionate about mental health 
- Excellent communication and leadership skills 
- Experience with leading virtual meetings and managing volunteers 
- Able to plan and execute social media campaigns that relate to current events, mental health, and/or community wellness 
- Keen eye for details and design
- Experience with Canva and/or graphic design software 
- Ability to be consistent with branding and colour schemes 
- Able to design visuals for our social media accounts and website 
- Minimum 2 years of relevant schooling and/or experience required, 2-3+ years of experience preferred 

Bonus skills:
- Previous experience using Squarespace (website development platform), Mailchimp (newsletters), and Slack
- Video editing experience 
- Photography skills 
- Marketing and brand-development skills

Roles and responsibilities:
- Leading regular team meetings & Delegating tasks 
- Scheduling posts using FB Business Suite / Twitter 
- Following up with volunteers about their progress and completion of tasks
- Designing informative and engaging content for social media posts
- Planning social media campaigns, with the assistance of social media team members
- Interviewing new volunteers 
- Updating members of MHS leadership about progress and challenges in the team 
- Maintaining consistent communication over Slack (an online messaging platform) 
- Working with writers to brainstorm new topics and ideas to write about
- Ensuring that best practices are followed in marketing, SEO, and website design
- Editing and proofing work submitted for posting
